The 2017 International Rubber and Plastic Exhibition was held in Guangzhou from May 16th to 19th. This year's exhibition theme will revolve around three hotspots: "intelligent manufacturing, high-tech materials, and environmental protection technology", comprehensively showcasing new technologies, new products, high-tech materials, plastic processing and management solutions in the rubber and plastic industry.

The polymer new materials industry, as a national basic material, plays a crucial role in the upgrading of consumption. Polymer new materials, as one of the seven strategic emerging industries, are widely used in industrial and civil fields closely related to human production and life, including high-end industrial fields such as aerospace, high-speed rail, and military industry, as well as civil fields such as automobiles, home appliances, mobile communication, and bathroom fixtures.

However, the polymer new materials industry is in a situation of being large but not strong, small and scattered. High-end products rely on imports, and core technologies are in the hands of foreign enterprises. Gan Zhihua, secretary-general of the Polymer Discipline Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society, said that the polymer materials industry urgently needs to shift from the current situation of resource waste, low-end and homogenization to a sustainable development path of resource conservation, product differentiation and high added value, and also carry out a strong and powerful "supply-side reform". To break through the problems of low-end and homogenization, there are no more than two paths: One is to rely on model innovation and explore new ideas for intensification and scale; Second, rely on investment in research and development to build world-class technological research and development capabilities.

This exhibition also held China's first "Polymer New Materials Development and Entrepreneurship Forum", at which the "White Paper on the Development and Entrepreneurship of the Modified Plastics Industry" (hereinafter referred to as the "White Paper") was released. The white paper shows that entrepreneurs in polymer new materials generally face entrepreneurial difficulties such as capital chain problems, new product research and development capabilities, and technological update capabilities. To address these difficulties, over 80% of entrepreneurs in this field currently tend to start businesses in groups, among which those who prefer platform entrepreneurship are in the majority.

Against this backdrop, China's first physical entrepreneurship platform - Jin? WE WORK came into being. According to Jin? Group Chairman, Jin? Yang Qingjin, the founder of WE WORK, introduced that this platform takes the partnership entrepreneurship platform as the development carrier, focuses on the research and operation of the polymer new materials industry. The products not only cover fields such as general, engineering plastics and special engineering plastics, but are also widely used in industries such as high-speed rail, aerospace, home appliances, automobiles, electronic appliances, etc. Create a new development platform for entrepreneurs through the sharing of all elements of resources and one-stop services. For instance, the platform has established multiple research institutions to provide R&D resources for partners. To address the product manufacturing needs of partners, the platform has fully initiated the construction of an intelligent manufacturing system. It has planned and designed the Xiamen Industrial Park in accordance with the concept of Industry 4.0, introduced world-class production equipment from Germany, maintained industry-leading preparation processes, and configured advanced intelligent warehousing systems. The first phase of its project has been completed and put into operation.

Since its establishment over a year ago, the platform has launched mid-to-high-end PA products and made breakthroughs in areas such as reinforcement, toughening, flame retardancy, heat conduction, electroplating, high barrier properties, and functional masterbatches. Its products are now widely used in industries such as films, automobiles, power tools, electronic appliances, and bathroom fixtures. It has also developed antibacterial and flame-retardant PP, 3D printing materials, micro-foaming materials, low-odor materials, spray-free materials, toughened and flame-retardant materials, etc., providing customized solutions for innovative applications such as automotive lightweighting, thin and fashionable home appliances, and smart home.

It is understood that currently, China's polymer new materials industry is growing at an annual rate of 10%. According to the statistics of the China Plastics Processing Industry Association, from 2004 to 2015, the total output of plastics in China rose from 17.91 million tons to 77.172 million tons. Meanwhile, the modification rate has also been increasing year by year. In 2004, the modification rate of plastics in China was only 8%. By 2016, the modification rate of plastics in China had basically remained at 19%. The 2017 International Rubber and Plastic Exhibition was held in Guangzhou from May 16th to 19th. This year's exhibition theme will revolve around three hotspots: "intelligent manufacturing, high-tech materials, and environmental protection technology". Comprehensively display the new technologies, new products, high-tech materials, plastic processing and management solutions of rubber and plastic.
